POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Sustainability & Social Impact Officer, the Sustainability Program Manager is a key member of the Sustainability & Social Impact team whose work is guided by the company's Hop Forward ambitions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption, maintain and expand zero waste commitments and deliver projects and results that have a positive environmental impact. This role also supports adjacent Hop Forward commitments in support of employee and community engagement. The Sustainability Program Manager leads the strategic development, implementation and ongoing success of programs and projects in our manufacturing facilities, restaurants and across our value chain. This role is responsible for ensuring cross-functional alignment and coordination in pursuit of sustainability objectives and collaborates closely with Program Manager counterpart and functional leaders. This role requires a high level of decision-making, professionalism and subject-matter knowledge. This role also fulfills external, public-facing responsibilities within the local/regional community and with advocacy partners. Responsibilities also include key performance metrics tracking, reporting and auditing to achieve both short and long term Hop Forward objectives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Essential Duties

Research, develop, lead and implement strategic programs and projects related to energy, water, zero waste, transportation, supply chain, climate change and greenhouse gas emissions

 

Completion and maintenance of the company’s greenhouse gas inventory for scopes 1, 2 and 3

 

Monthly/annual tracking and goal setting for energy, water and waste KPI metrics as well as vendor/contract management

 

Research, apply for, and manage grants and other funding mechanisms through local, state, or federal programs that support company initiatives to reduce GHG emissions and other environmental impact goals

 

Annually deliver impact report with environmental and social impact team

 

Educate and train internal teams and external partners on sustainable practices and the company’s Hop Forward strategy

 

Accountable for site-specific budget and making purchasing decisions as appropriate

 

Identify, implement, and maintain appropriate facility certifications (e.g. TRUE zero waste, LEED, Bicycle Friendly Business, etc.)

 

Represent Sierra Nevada through our advocacy partners as well as serve as a liaison with city, county and regional organizations with respect to relevant sustainability impacts and initiatives

 

Develop and maintain community partnerships with local environmental/sustainability groups as well as other businesses through speaking engagements, onsite community-facing events, and VIP tours

 

Support broader corporate responsibility initiatives as needed

Must be willing to work some non-standard hours on weekends if necessary.

Working knowledge of global sustainability initiatives, climate change, zero waste, water and energy efficiency, and renewable energy

Strong planning, organizational, project management and problem-solving skills including return on investment (ROI) and benchmarking

Must have the ability to independently manage a varied workload of programs and assignments with multiple priorities in a continuously changing environment

Must have demonstrated competencies in strategic and systems thinking, business acumen, decision making, change management and influence without authority

High level of professionalism, collaboration, and relationship building

Exceptional communication skills, ability to interact with all levels of the company as well as represent the company externally
